Thank you, Mr. President. I am deeply honored to take this oath, to serve as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. I served as a Governor from 2006 to 2011, through the financial crisis. I know the Fed’s power, its importance, and its limits. The Fed has a clear, narrow mission: price stability and maximum employment. That is our mandate. We will stay in our lane. Independence is not given—it must be earned. We will make decisions based on data, analysis, and the long-run interests of the American economy—not politics, not pressure, not short-term calls. Inflation is the Fed’s responsibility. We will get inflation down, period. We will focus on our core job, and leave social and climate policy to elected officials and other agencies. To the American people: We will be steady, disciplined, and accountable. To the President, to Congress: We will work with you when our missions align—but monetary policy will be independent, always.
